Truck Stalled in 4WD

Hello all,

While driving on some snowy roads in MI (Trip to see the in-laws) I put the TB in A4WD. The truck engaged into A4WD no problem and even felt it take over while the tires started to spin. While driving around 20-30 MPH I braked and felt the truck slide a little. After I came to a complete stop I noticed the speedometer was stuck at around 10MPH and when I tried to Accelerate the truck would not go, it would only rev up. I switched the vehicle back into 2w HI and Vehicle ran smoothly. The truck has around 160,000 miles. I always take care of my vehicle, regular maintenance, the whole 9 yards. Could this be 4WD related or something else? What do you guys think?

The ABS might have engaged when you came to a stop and if you haven't exercised the system to keep the valves operating freely, the initial diagnostic might not be sufficient. I'd take it out on snow again and slam on the brakes and force the ABS to activate 10 times or so.

Also confirm you are keeping up on maintenance, and that includes changing the transfer case fluid every 50K, not 100K. And the differential fluids were changed at 100K.

Added: And if it's slippery enough to need 4WD, just put it in 4HI. A4WD mode is generally (by me) frowned upon unless you're in an extremely limited set of intermittent conditions.

Thanks for the reply Roadie. So that would cause the vehicle to seem like it's in neutral? For giggles I took it to advance to see if any codes were visible and there was one. The gentleman from advance said the code was for the 4WD Selector switch. I may replace the switch and see how that goes.

P.S. I did feel a sort of clicking/grinding in the brake pedal as I was sliding. From my understanding that is the Anti-Lock brake.
