My Judith screams went she starts and sometimes when I accelerate, even gently. Also when I turn I get a squeal. At times it sounds like there is a turbo under the hood after the squeal. I believe we are having fan issues but looking for guidance from the folks with the knowledge. Please help...thanx in advance y'all.

Sounds like a belt but also inspect belt tensioner as these are notorious for going bad along with the fan clutch.

What kind of mileage do you have on there?

I agree with the two post above. Tensioner will squeal under load. I would inspect the belt first though.

If your belt needs replacing dont get a cheap belt. Gatorback is what I would recommend, I have used the Dayco as well.

If I remember correctly, there are two lengths. The EXT takes the shorter one, I think.

I am not a mechanic, just a machinist..... I feel if it can be fixed I can fix it. I had the squeak as well and I have replaced everything involved. Belt, idler pully....I was convinced it was not the tensioner,so I bought a tensioner pulley because bearing looked bad. I even went to the extreme of machining a few pulleys myself on cnc turning center and all proved to fail. well The squeak is gone now because I drug myself to the parts store and bought a new tensioner pulley.. like I said, replace it all the squeak will be gone.GOOD LUCK!

I dont want to thread drift off the OP but the spring in the tensioner assembly also goes bad. That is why on the tensioner your best bet is to change the whole thing and not just the pulley.

Keep in mind, whatever pulley the squeal is originating from is becoming very hot and the longer it squeals the hotter it gets, up to the point of possible failure if seals are involved.

Depending on the mileage, mine was at 145,00, I would recommend replacing the lot of them. The pulley, belt, idler pulley and tension assembly. Check the online store and the parts are not bad. I just looked in Rock Auto, big time on-line store. 2005 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER 4.2L L6 : Belt Drive : Belt Drive Component Kit, also include the belt. whole thing $78.79. Includes a Gates Serpentine Belt, well known, well established belt and hose maker from my teen years, and a lets just say the Eagles, were in there first hits. More Information for GATES K060905 link will take you there.

It's not a bad DIY job, its the labor that will kill you at a shop. If your going to do it yourself, just do em all at once, than no matter which is causing it, ya got it covered.
