Recirc Mode

2004 Envoy with Manual HVAC system, when I start truck, the RECIRC is always off no matter how it was last left. This is a bit uncomfortable in the winter time until everything warms up because it allows cold outside air into the cabin. Is there any secret procedure to have the RECIRC mode stay in the previous setting or start in the ON mode?

I am not sure you can set it to be on automatically.

Just have to push the button each time when you start it. Mine was the same way.

Depending on the difference in humidity between the outside and the interior, a vehicle's windows will fog if the HVAC is left in recirc long enough. That may be why GM resets the system to fresh air each run cycle. Although it's probably just due solely to the button being a momentary switch.

I'll see what the digital HVAC does next time I'm in the Voy. But I'm guessing it'll be the same as the manual system.

It's the same, recirc always off at start.

All of mine were like that, auto and manual.

How about how they gave us SWBs no "rear" button? I have to contort my arm behind me to hit the rear button so my passengers can get some air. They aren't just going to push some arbitrary "PWR" button in the console on their own, especially if they're kids.
Shoot, I'm still trying to figure out why the a/c compressor sometimes doesn't come back on even though it "remembers" the snowflake was illuminated last time.
Whoops, wrong season.

I always just leave the blower off until the coolant temperature needle starts to move. Moving air feels colder than stationary air, and you'd just be blowing unheated air either way. That's the logic behind why the auto HVAC system starts it low then ramps up the blower once the engine starts warming up.

I wired my rear to always be on. As for the recirc button... If I left mine on last drive cycle it is still on when I start. The flap opens to ambient air for 30 seconds at start then it closes but if the light was on it stays on. Only time it isn't is when I put it to floor only or anything past it. Recirculate doesn't run on those modes. The envoy doesn't with the auto hvac though.

I've always wondered why the recirc function won't stay on unless its in VENT mode, in the full size trucks you can use it in all modes

Cold outside air is also DRY outside air, and recirc just adds to the condensation on windows when cold. In all my tests, I have found that it doesn't warm up the inside any faster, but sure adds to condensation problems. Mind you, that is from the perspective of the person who lives where, for the past five days, has been documented as being colder than the surface of Mars.

Not that I am willing to go there right now. That 100 billion mile long extension cord for the block heater is going to be a bitch to find on sale at Canadian Tire!
