Rear Ac clicking from solenoid

Just got done replacing rear evaporator and both rear door solenoids for the ac. Removed 10 amp ac fuse to recalibrate multiple times in attempt to recalibrate but still clicks every time ignition is started. I used ac delco solenoids. Its the vent door (ceiling vs floor) that is hitting against the stop for the roof vent side for about 60 seconds.

Any ideas here? they are brand new ac delco solenoids from amazon so a little puzzled. Everything does work fine heat/ac and vent selection after the minute of clicking is gone.

Orignally had to replace solenoids cause nothing would switch. Old ones gears seemed stripped out as move pretty easily.


Just cant seem to get it to calibrate.

Clicking is the classic sound of an actuator (not solenoid) that's being commanded to go past its stops. It's very surprising that the control module doesn't give up and quit using the clicking one.

If only one of them clicks, I'd suspect it's bad. Swap the two of them and recalibrate, and see if the problem follows the unit or stays put. If it stays with the vent position actuator, I'd suspect the control module or the position feedback sensor wiring back to the module.

Do you have a voltmeter to be able to watch the sensor output as the calibration process happens? And later on while you use the controls to move the position?

Good news is that you could always command it to go to the midpoint so you get flow out of both upper and lower vents, then disconnect the actuator and leave it there. If troubleshooting it is too annoying or expensive.

Thanks. That gives me something to go on. I tried switching but it made no difference. IT does work fine after the calibration attempt gives up. I can move floor to ceiling and vice versa along with hot and cold and cold to hot. So its Basically just an annoyting click that i have now.

Will try to trace wiring for calibration and also reset by pulling negative cable. I suspect it may be the module. It only does it on key on. Just doesnt seem to hold the calibration.

One quick question. The module is the one with all the controls on it correct in the rear console.

Yep. The front control module in the dash is involved in a minor way, but the airflow mode and blower speed commands come from the module in the console.
