Reading light button

As I was removing the lens from the rear passenger courtesy lights, the button/switch for the reading light shot off. Literally, it disappeared somewhere under the headliner. Brings me to 2 questions: 1) how do you remove the grab handles from the roof. It appears it slides since there aren't bolts or screws. And second, are replacement switches available or will have to look at buying the whole light kit? TBs are few and far between at the pull-a-part (only 1 since January).

Sorry to hear about your switch breaking. I broke the one retaining clip that keeps the lens cover locked to the dome light on my rear light of my envoy. I had to glue the cover to the assembly.

To get the handles off what you need to do is first look at each side, there is a little plastic cover over the 2 sides. Spread it outward slightly and then down to make the cover come free. Next to get the actual handle detached from the roof you need to take the handle and push it outward and then down. I prefer to take one hand and push the handle right in the middle where you would grab it and then use my other hand to pull down the sides one at a time to free it. I hope that is explained well enough for you. Please note that the handles have little retaining tabs that will prevent it from falling out of the headliner so when you take it down it will come undone from the metal of the roof but not out entirely from the headliner.

I don't think you can replace just the switch on these as they are integrated. You don't necessarily need the switch if you didn't plan on using the reading lamp. Tbh my interior lights are all LED's and the dome light blows when I press the button because the LED's don't get the power right and are so dim they don't help with reading at all. I never used them anyway. If you have the same dome lights like I have this will work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-08-Chevrolet-Trailblazer-4-2L-I6-interior-dome-light-map-Overhead-OEM-/400635537270?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d47bd2776&vxp=mtr

All you do is first take a little flat head screw driver to the opposite side of the button you depress to turn on the reading light and push in slightly and then down to unhook it. Then once it is free pull down the clear lens cover all the way and pull it out. Next the side that you had the reading button at you will pull the actual body of the light down on that side first and then on the opposite side you pull that away and will see the electrical connector you can disconnect. You don't need to take the grab handles out for this. You only need to take them out if you want to drop the headliner down/out.

I would suggest getting the manuals we have freely available in the Technical Discussion area if you need visual reference. Interior Trim is the specific one you need when you get the pack, and the procedure starts on Page 85.

It includes procedures on how to release the handles from the chassis, and then further instructions if you'd like to completely remove them.

.
Mine does the same thing, but it has been discussed on here.. if you just flip your vanity mirror cover open then closed for a split second the map/reading lights come on at full power. I do the trick all the time. Helps so you don't have to have all the dome lights on. Esp if u have as many and as bright as mine are Haha.

I had the same thing happen to me, not once but twice ! Remove the plastic cover that covers the "B" post and look at the head liner and also down on the floor. If you don't see it peck lightly on the headliner it will appear. :woot:

I pulled the B-pillar cover, tapped on the headliner, looked on the floor, ground and bracket, got the fiber optic camera out and STILL can't find it!! :hissyfit: That joker is G O N E.....

Only problem with that man, my visors have no lights in them. Id still never have any need to use the reading lights. I have enough light that bounces up off the roof from my bass and volume knobs I have in the center console and will have even more light when I put in a 10" touch screen and vu-meters in the dash. lol.
