Need Help with Drive Shaft for an Engine Swap.

Hello all,

My question is: do I need to change the drive shaft for a longer/shorter one, and/or transmission mount when swapping an I6 with a V8?

Purchased a TB with damaged I6, engine already removed.

And I'm putting a LQ9 I've had for a while sitting in my garage, and keep the stock 4L60E that came with the TB. Already got TBSS engine mounts and supports for the swap, so the engine will sit right on the same spot as it does on the TBSS (I guess)

But I don't know if the transmission sits more towards the front with a V8, or backwards? Or if it's in the same spot either with the I6 or the V8.

Any help or suggestion is highly appreciated.

Rephrasing question:
Is the drive shaft shorter or longer on a 2WD TB with an I6, compared to a 2WD TB with a V8?

Or they are the same length?

While not a direct answer to your question, I'll tell you what I did when I did an engine swap in my Isuzu Hombre. I took my now too long drive shaft to a business that builds custom drive shafts for automotive and industrial customers and had them shorten and balance mine. I think it was about $100, but this was back in 2002 or so.

Thanks for the suggestion, not a bad idea at all. My problem is the time and money I have for this swap. I already have the oil pan, supports and some stuff on the way and I would like to hear (read) that I wont even need to take off the tranny or drive shaft, just drop the engine in and step on the gas (wish it was that easy).
