Low oil pressure

Can someone direct me what to look for? About 1-2 times a day I get a low oil pressure warning when I am at a stop light. I don’t notice any off idling.

Since you have the I6, it could be that your pressure switch is failing intermittently or the plug/socket is not tight or has oil in it. On the I6, there is a switch that tells the ECM whether there is oil pressure or not. The ECM makes the gauge move to simulate oil pressure as the engine RPM changes.

I would start at the switch and check it and the harness.

I agree there...I had a similar issue after purchasing the TB, took a compressor and blew out the Oil in the Sensor and Sensor Pigtail (male) and have not had a issue with it since.

But I will be replacing the Oil Pressure Sensor eventually cause it is seeping/leaking Oil and probably replace the OPS Pigtail at the same time cause Oil has gotten into it...thanks to the OPS.

Does anyone have a pic of where this OPS pigtail is? I notice at lunch the low pressure happens when I accelerate from a stop.

What year is your ride? I'm pretty sure the location changed between 1 of the years.

Have you checked your oil level? Light comes on when accelerating from stop kinda sounds like low on oil.

Like Mounce said, check the oil level. Are you aware that the I6 is a 7 quart system, not the usual 5 or 6 qts. Did you do the last oil change, or someone else? Maybe the level is low?

That would be a different alert message, but maybe the OP is remembering it wrong. I see that almost daily here at work when someone calls in with a problem with their analyzer. They get the error message wrong and we are troubleshooting the wrong problem.

I will be looking at the oil level at lunch. Last night I was unable to locate the OPS. I couldn't go under the Envoy due to the rain.

The oil pressure switch is located just above the oil filter which is on the front, passenger side of the engine (below the power steering pump) You should be able to see it from the top. It has a green connector.

IIRC the 2002 was the only year with an oil level sensor but I believe the point being made was that if the oil level was low enough to starve the pump it would result in a low oil pressure light too, not that the low level was being detected directly.

9 times out of 10 intermittent low oil pressure warnings are the switch itself failing. That being said, if it is a genuine low oil pressure condition for whatever reason (low level, failing pump, etc.) then obviously you risk serious engine damage.
