My 02TB sounds like a diesel when I take off even after warm up. Full synthetic 5 w30 and almost consistent 60lbs oil pressure. Maybe the lifters? Help !!!

This is actually a fairly commonly-reported thing.

If you have the I6, the oil gauge is a lie. In fact, it's not even working right, because it should say 40 at idle. The oil gauge on the I6 CANNOT be trusted beyond knowing if you have oil pressure, or no oil pressure. Remember cars with no oil pressure gauge, it just had a dummy light that came on with no/low pressure? It's pretty much an extremely-glorified version of that.

Another thing to note is that the I6 doesn't really have lifters. It's actually a DOHC design, complete with VVT on the exhaust cam. Maybe there's a part in there that's called a lifter, but it's not a lifter like we know with push rods and all that.

How many miles? How often is your oil change interval? I can't recall off-hand what else causes this noise.

Yeah my 04 is starting to sound like that as well. ive got around 130,000 and reguliar oil changes every 3000.

A diesel sound is probably the best way I Can describe the noise my engine is making. It has made the noise intermittently for like 5 years since around 100,000 miles now that it has 158,000 the noise stays all the time but you can only really hear it at less than 2000 rpms. I'm guessing my problem is my timing chain guide

Have you checked for an exhaust leak? Loose or broken manifold bolts, cracked manifold, etc

I thought all the I6's sounded like this. Mine got a little better when I replaced the fan.

I bought mine with 56k on it and it sounded like a diesel at startup from the day I took it home. Over the years I had it I would listen to other I6s and it was always the same thing. Some worse than others, but pretty much all of them do it.

My thoughts as well, I suspect a cracked exhaust manifold, it leaks when cold and seals it'self when it gets hot.

The cracks are usually on the underside and can be seen with a small mirror.

Thank you all for the input and information. I will have my guy check it all out and see what's going on with my Judith. I appreciate y'all.
