coolant temperature sensor

On my 03 trailblazer can I change the coolant temp sensor from below with the car on ramps without removing the alternator thanks

You might be able to change it through the wheel well. Not really sure. Some members change the t-stat that way.

Not likely without a dedicated socket. You can make one from a deepwell 18MM using a dremel.

The socket is the key..I did it right from the top side with hood open.

It's a PITA with the Alt off, can't imagine being more fun with it on...BTW, I didn't use a socket, but a crowsfoot... whichever method you go with, start the install with your hand and not the socket, the threads are sensitive, last place to cross thread is this place....

I managed it with a stubby wrench from up top, but the alt was out of my way and I was doing t-stat too.

Like has been said, it's a pita.

You will probably want the socket, and good luck finding one you can buy. So that means making one.

I've heard of going through the wheel well but if your not familiar with the area it might be tough.

So that leaves removing the alt and all that...again a pita. It can be done though. I would plan on doing the t stat as well when you do this. I would set aside a whole day for doing it as well. That would be on the long side of things though, but better to plan for the worst case IMO.

Keep in mind, ladies and gentlemen, that it is even MORE of a PITA to do the sensor on the '06+ models. It's waaaay in the back on the passenger side.
