coil pack longevity?

I've recently had two coils packs go bad. They were both two years old. They were not Delco/Delphi, I think they were BWD's. They give you a 1 year warranty on them. I just think they should last longer than 2 years. Anyone else have similar results?

I'm still running all original coils on my 02 with 210k miles. Others have had to replace them sooner though, so I can't say to expect that to happen necessarily!

I would expect something like a coil to last longer than a couple years. I'd try another brand this time. Not sure which though. Maybe OEM stuff? Not sure the pricing as I never compared, but sometimes you do get what you pay for.

I have one of those brand coil packs, that I installed about 4 years ago, and it's still functioning properly. :twocents:

When I swapped the engine, one was bad so I used a newer looking one from the old engine (might have been the Standard brand). It worked for a few months and then it died. Replaced it with one of the original old ones, it's been fine ever since.

I have an 05 LS, 4.2, have had to replace 2 coil packs, one due to failure, other due to water getting into it and causing it to short out. 1st one failed at 100K, which was in 2011, 2nd one happened a year later. Currently just shy of 118K.

I've just replaced one last fall because the body was corroded. Bought a Delphi. I've decided to put the OEM brand whenever possible because they are usually worth it. Unlike the Airtex fuel pump I had to buy out of necessity. Might be switching that to a Delphi soon.

I am on the original at 165Kish. Just lucky I guess

same here 208k and they all look OEM to me when I did my plug change.

I've read others have issues with BWD coil packs on other forums for different cars...
I am going to assume BWD is low quality junk.
Dealers who say to replace coil packs every X or just trying to make money.
I have all original coil packs at 220k in my daughters envoy.
I have all originals in my Crown Vic 180k.
on my crown vic I will be replacing the coil pack BOOTS soon as those are what goes bad not the coil packs. the boots are rubber and go down into the cylinder they get old over time and start causing shorts. I dont recall how the envoy does it as I havent done plugs in a few years.

Have you recently changed your spark plugs by any chance? I attempted to use a set of E3 plugs and started burning out coils. That was before I found out that I should stick with the ACD Iridium's that came installed from the factory.
I went through that a few years ago......I guess I should have stated aftermarket coil pack longevity. I had two go bad that were BWD's--in use for 2 years with new delco iridiums.
