Tips on 1st Thermostat replacement on Inline-6

Regarding item 4 in your list, the hidden bolt on the engine lift bracket. After wrestling with it for a disapportionate amount of time I slotted the bracket where that 3rd bolt goes after I got it off. That way the next time I just back out the bolt enough to let the bracket slid out. I've...

    AC issue (Driver's side warmer)

A low refrigerant charge can cause a side-to-side variation in discharge temperature. Refrigerant enters the evaporator, but if a low charge, will evaporate without cooling the entire surface of the evaporator. Not saying this is your problem but something to check.

PCM tune...how do I know if my TB has had one or not?

Wonder how the dealership detects "altered calibrations"? There numerous service bulletins telling the dealers to check for pcm alterations and deny warranty if found.

    Transfer case fluid change.

Include O'Reillys in places that now sell AutoTrak II. The local store had to get it from the warehouse (one day turn around)

    Radiator Question

If you go to www.urethanesupply.com/radiator.php it appears their kit does what you mentioned. This is one I turned up when initially looking at repair options. Fairly expensive if only doing one repair and cosmetically is like the blind cow.... she doesn't looks so good!

    Radiator Question

My 95 S10 developed a slight seep from one of the end tanks. A web search turned up several threads on repairing the "plastic" material. The key to success seemed to be using the right filler material compatible with the plastic melting it into the crack. You might look into this as an...

    Changing thermostat, coolant loss?

I don't have a definitive answer on coolant loss. I've changed my t-stat and sensor on several occasions. Each time I pulled the lower hose and drained the coolant. I did find using one of those el cheapo Walmart plastic tubs did a fairly good job of catching most of the coolant. It's about...

    Tuners again!

A couple of observations I've made over the years.... fuel economy is generally better driving west to east. The prevailing winds are westerly so driving easterly you generally have a tail wind. Secondly elevations are generally higher in the west, Flagstaff being over 7000 ft. The...

Identitfying transmission deep pan or shallow pan

The shallow pan is flat on the bottom, deep has a stepped bottom. I've not seen anyone report having a shallow bottom pan. If you do a web search for images showing "4l60e shallow vs deep pan" some examples will show you the step in the bottom for reference.

    Transfer case fluid change

The Amazon link in POW's post clearly shows 10-1047 as being Auto-Trak II in a black bottle. I bought mine from O'Reillys and the bottle also showed 10-1047 as Auto-Trak II

Does Gates make delco aftermarket water pump?

I hope this info is of interest to those responding to the original question..... early in '09 my water pump was replaced under an extended warranty. I dug out the repair order. No bolts were listed so I'm guessing the old one were reused. Appreciate any feedback if you find a valid p/n.

    Transfer case fluid change

The last I bought was from O'Reillys however when searching their site use ACDelco 10-4017. Locally they had to order from the warehouse. An interesting bit of info. On Amazon AC Delco 10-4014 is listed for $7.11 while the OEM version, 88900402 is $12.46 - both 1 liter bottles

Does Gates make delco aftermarket water pump?

Somewhat of a mystery. I looked on ACDelco's site for both the 251-731 (OEM) and 252-822 pumps. Neither had any reference to replace the bolts. Generally RA's site info is directly from the suppliers. Also couldn't find a p/n for the bolts however didn't spend much time looking. Similarly...

Anyone replacing the torque to yield bolts as mentioned for the $90 ACDelco pump on RA's site?

a/c driver side blowing hot air

Also check if refrigerant is low. Some times a sign of a low charge is side to side variation in discharge temperature. If low, refrigerant evaporates as it passes thru the evaporator and only cools part of the surface. A quick and dirty check is to feel the outside of the accumulator with...
