I go out this morning, push the button on the remote, nothing. Hmm.

I unlock the door with the key, open it, nothing, no dome light.

I put the key in the ignition, turn it (ok, that was fucking stupid because now it won't come out and I knew that would happen. In defense, only 1 cup of coffee!) 🙄

Hook up a battery charger, it shuts down, click 🤔

I get a jump, it starts right up. Then I see this. Like, WTF? Now I have to take it all apart to get the needle unstuck.

One of the cells shorted, $207 for new battery 😒

When it rains, it pours.

Oop's IPC, anyways...

Should that needle clear the inner trim and be able to spin 360 degrees?

When I first got the vehicle the battery would run dead due to the power drain caused from the "silver migration" in the IPC. It kept the network awake. So I sent the IPC back east to a guy to repair it.

Short story, he screwed me but, he did fix the short circuits. That needle wasn't put back on in the right place anyways (always off 2 mph to the left) and I'm wondering if it's just pushed onto the shaft too far?

While I'm in there I may as well correct it.

There is an internal limit that the stepper motor will allow to turn and that is supposed to be pointing at 0 turning clockwise. And I'm pretty sure there is an upper limit too or a peg for the needle. If not, maybe the boost just pegged the needle and needs to be unstuck. Once you get it unstuck and you plug it in, it should do a sweep of all the needles when you turn on the truck and return to their normal positions.

All the steppers where supposed to be replaced, it was just part of the deal. I'm wondering if the needle is not on far enough, or perhaps too far.

If is was pushed on farther, it would not have climbed the edge of the trim.

If it wasn't on as far, it would've cleared the trim and then, I honestly don't know. Hopefully it would've gone back to zero.

Even before it got stuck, it didn't go to zero when powered, it went to -2 as the needle was put on in the wrong position. So since I have to remove the bezel to get it unstuck, I may as well pop the needle off and put it back on in the right position. Not having a test rig, I'll just plug it in and turn the truck on.

I'm not sure how far to push it back on though. It's obviously not at the right depth now. Had it been installed correctly, it would not have been able to get stuck like it is.

Could be the needle wasn't pushed enough onto the motor shaft and got loose. To set it right, open it up, check the needle is loose, spin it counter-clockwise twice until it's at 0 and push it down gently onto the shaft.
