On my girl's 2002 Base Model Trailblazer 4.2, the rear muffler baffle has broken loose and has an intermittent internal rattle. I can hear it rattle when idling and can duplicate the rattle noise when I tap sideways on the short tailpipe. Looks like a complete welded together one piece system that leads to a bigger front muffler and then to a 2 bolt flange between front of muffler and the back of the catalytic converter.

I looked it all up at RA. Looks like a Walker rear muffler #55272, a Walker 2 1/2" clamp #35337 at back of front muffler and a Walker #21409 front muffler that has the 2 bolt flange at the front. Unfortunately, there is no part number for the gasket at the 2 bolt flange.

First request, please advise if you agree on the parts numbers at RA and can you supply a part number for the flange gasket?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Never mind about the gasket question. I just did what I should have done before posting the request. I looked at pic(s) of the end of the catalytic converter and it shows a ball type end that would seal in to the pocket of the at front of front muffler pipe. The 2 tightened bolts, would seal the area.

Thanks but still need opinions on the rest of the exhaust parts numbers and applications.

The rear piece isn't a muffler, but a resonator It doesn't do anything for volume of the exhaust, but the tone instead. When this platform and forum were really active with modifications, many of us cut that piece out, and had a pipe and exhaust tip put on in its place.

I had mine cut off many years ago, and honestly couldn't tell much difference in the tone, did the same for the under hood resonators, and didn't notice much change there either. :twocents:

Ok, there is a local dependable muffler shop close to me. I have had them do exhaust work before and they are good and have great reviews. I am going there and see what they can do. If I got it all at RA, it was gonna be $240 including shipping. That is from the back of the catalytic converter to the back with a new muffler, resonator and a clamp. $80 shipping. Linda said to go to shop and she would be happy with whatever I decide.

I'd just chop it off and replace it with a pipe. Cut costs and save some weight at the same time.

I am certainly leaning that way. Especially since, at 78k miles, plan on keeping it.

#55272 resonator is the piece to replace the existing pipe. The bends matches the hanger locations unless you go the custom pipe route.

Hope there is enough muffler stub section to reattach and weld the new pipe. #55272 OD is smaller than muffler stub ID.
