    I heard/read that somewhere a while back, and I believed it! So I have never taken both out at once. I have no credible source to quote on that, I just never took the chance... :) Thanks for clearing it up that it is not an issue!

    Having someone pull on it while you hit it is fine, as long as you are putting new axles in. Pulling the joints apart can be a nightmare if you plan to put the same one back in. Also....do not remove BOTH axles at once! Internals shift if both axles are out, and you will be re-building it...

    *INote: the original lines are 3/8" steel. If these are known to be original, go with 3/8" compression fittings to repair. I put replacement lines into mine a couple years ago, and the replacement lines are 10mm...3/8 fittings no longer fit! Metric compression fittings are not normal stock...

    UPDATE: Yesterday I dropped the pan, totally cleaned it, new filter, gasket, added 4.5 qts of Dexron VI. Test drive (staying close to home) of about a 1/2 mile total, running through all gears. Behaving totally normal. Will try a longer test drive soon. Most likely a clogged filter not...

    Needs rebuild I guess....but what would cause the tranny to work for a couple hundred feet when cold/fresh start, and then just spin as if in neutral until it sits for a couple hours, engine off???
