What are you doing today? [Part II]

I use a bit less than a gallon on the TB, especially since I do it once a year. Opinions vary wildly and I have seen videos etc showing much less material used so I must really lay it on. I actually did 3 vehicles: the TB, a Beretta, and a Vue and used about 2 gal. However, 2 are unibodies so a...

Baked on oil: plugs #5 and #6

Thank you! So far so good, hopefully they got the rack seals right this time, I know those are a bear. It sure is a nice truck, we were out around town yesterday with the ice cold a/c and the nice-sounding factory Bose rockin'.

Baked on oil: plugs #5 and #6

Back to the shop again tonight for a power steering leak. This will be the 2nd time, so hopefully they can get it. I had the driver's side wheel off, it looks like the return line where it goes in to the rack is a little bit crooked. I had them install ac Delco lines with the OE design...

    Rusted Frame at Hitch

I thought to myself "man, it's a shame his truck rusted out so bad, and then I saw your OH plate and I totally understood, fellow Ohioan here. Rust belt warriors, you and I. If you find out that it's just scaly rust, maybe wire brush it and hose it down with Fluid Film. It goes on thick and...

Baked on oil: plugs #5 and #6

Back from the shop finally!! It took them a month, but the brand-new used engine is installed and well, from a quick listen. They pulled the valve cover, checked it for sludge. They put the starter on it and did a compression test on the stand. They swapped exhaust manifolds because ours looked...

Baked on oil: plugs #5 and #6

That's all good stuff, man. The nipple on the valve cover had good vacuum at the beginning of this saga. I had checked it early on, and then also as I added the catch can. I haven't checked it lately, but symptoms have not gotten better or worse. We've only put about 7k miles on it since we...

Baked on oil: plugs #5 and #6

Hey @gmcman, thanks for all of the ideas. I like that borescope, I need it! I have tried your idea of soaking the pickup screen by filling through the dipstick tube. Instead of using B12, I used a mixture of Diesel Fuel and ATF. (I read that B12 isn't what it used to be due to VOC...

Baked on oil: plugs #5 and #6

Well I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, but until now there hadn't been much to report. I'm glad I tried everything I could to resurrect this poor Atlas, but she ain't gettin' no better. We are at 102k now, still runs very well considering. Still burning oil like crazy, and still...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Definitely looks like it needed replaced! Sounds like a good repair. New GM parts = fuel tank back in! Started right up, runs great, no leaks. Here's a pic of a spare tire that's probably never been down for 14 years in the rust belt. I soaked the winch in a bucket of oil for a week and...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Absolutely. The new one is in, and I smeared grease on top of it to hopefully hold down the rust. Unfortunately I broke the nipple off of that white thing on the tank. Some of the speed nuts where missing from the heat shield, so it dropped down and yanked on it. Doesn't look to be a...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Dropped the tank. Not too bad, pretty heavy when half full. The filler neck hose did not want to come off! I broke my new Christmas present creeper, just not built for real wrenching. The pics of the tank is exactly how it looked when I got it out. See the blue and yellow o-rings? It wasn't...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Well this was Tuesday, but... watched 'er come home on a flatbed. Quit on my wife making a right turn. Gas a spewing out of the top of the tank = rusted line in to sending unit. I can't actually see it, but enough of a bettin' man to have already ordered a delco setup from RA. she was...

It's cold. How do you heat your shop / garage?

I wouldn't recommend this, but I'm sure glad the PO of my property did it. lol My garage has an old Lennox fuel oil furnace. Basically sold me, I was more concerned with the garage, the house was side note lol I also found an old 220V heater in the basement of the house, I took it to the...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Looked at it sitting in the driveway covered in snow. for some reason my wife is convinced that the TB just slips and slides in the snow, and her 2000 Durango is much better. Could be the tires, PO put Primewell Valeras on it, I had bought those once before and they were, well, cheap tires.
