    Tech 2 Repair

Get some GOOD contact cleaner (there's nothing better than DeOxit) and try that on every plated contact you can find (including the Candi module cables etc!). Don't wipe it off after applying as it's a protectant as well. Scrubbing with a q-tip helps. After that, the most common failure on...

The usual YMMV caveat applies, but... just in case anyone in Canada is nervous about ordering from RA with border "stuff" going on... I rolled the dice and ordered some parts a few days ago (about $120usd). Had it shipped FedEx (just in case UPS is different). What I was charged up front...

When does piston slap become a problem?

I've had slap in my 4.2 since I bought it (cold... goes away...). Then I thought it was getting bad. Worse. Worser (not a word)! Well, it turned out that a water pump dying sounds like slap getting really bad!! Haha. Turns out you can partially cure 'slap' by replacing the water pump...

The dreaded electro viscous fan - maybe a fix?

Well, had a chance to drive it a few times now. While yes, there is a chance I went overboard on the filling... there's no doubt that it's actually doing something (you know - blowing air! Ha!) now, that it never has since I bought it in '17. I have no intention of pulling it out again...

The dreaded electro viscous fan - maybe a fix?

Excellent! Mine was the top, and had that shim washer you referred to. This now also relieves me of the nagging urge to take it apart again to document things better. ;)

The dreaded electro viscous fan - maybe a fix?

Hi all I had to replace the water pump, so had everything apart anyhow. I was feeling cheapskate'ish and didn't feel like replacing the coupling - It had been slipping for the last 7 years or so (hey, don't rush me!) but it was only a concern in the summer and the AC was on AND we were...

    O-rings for DMax

If you're doing some repairs, and have pulled the neck/throat/inlet (call it what you want!) out of the Y-bridge, you will no doubt be replacing the 2 o-rings on it. Now, this is on my LMM!! The other variants COULD be the same but I don't know for sure. Anyhow, instead of paying the $73...

    Heater/AC duct seals

I just picked up a 'new' (cough) 2008 Sierra 2500HD. Been going through it all top to bottom as I tend to do... when I was ripping the dash apart, I noticed that the foam on the 'vent side' of the dash was all trashed. So, instead of heating/cooling the inside of the dash, I went around and...

Alternator difference between 2005 and 2007 TB

For the PITA it is to get the alt's on and off on the 4.2 (5.3's are easy!), I'd just throw a jump pack on for added reserve capacity, and drive it home. Then get the correct alternator repaired and put on. Stay off the brakes, disable the auto headlights, turn off the stereo and all HVAC...

    I just can't....

As long as things are only breaking ONCE - then you're ahead of the game. Don't confuse the previous owners lack of maintenance with anything you've done. As for a door latch... I just replaced the one in the back door of my Sierra, and it was about $45 canadian! Check the jungle site.
